Before

Sunday June 9, very strong norwester blowing, a prelude to an intense low that night. Note colour of river and how much shingle is visible. There's a mountain to the right, you just can't see it due to the wind.

During

Went to bed with heavy rain, power went out at 4:30am, woke to this (that seat is full of snow):

By that time (around 10am) our vehicle looked like this, once we'd dug it out a little to find it:

And the Rakaia river was in spate, largely due to the overnight rain plus the melting effect on high-country snow from the norwester of the previous two days.

After

Dawn on the 13th -- now you can see Mt Hutt.
